The New Holland Ambulance Association (NHAA) would like to extend a congratulations and thank you to member Abby Eby for all of her accomplishments and service over the last couple of years.
Abby has been an active member of NHAA since 2006 when she was old enough at age 16 to take the certification exam. She attended high school at Garden Spot during the day and attended classes twice a week in the evening through Harrisburg Area Community College. Since passing the exam Abby has consistently been on an active crew, running hundreds of calls while giving fantastic patient care.
While with NHAA Abby has taken on the role of a crew chief, driver, and CPR/first aid instructor, all of which needs additional training and education to do so. Abby has also served as the vice president of the executive committee for one year.
Abby's passion for serving others has led her to her career choice in nursing. Abby graduated high school a semester early in 2008 and started working right away at Garden Spot Village, where she has worked in the personal care and memory support units as a medication technician, resident assistant, and most recently as a registered nurse.
Abby continued her education at Alvernia University where she recently graduated in May 2012 with a Bachelors of Science in Nursing degree. While at Alvernia, Abby became a cadet in the Army Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) and began daily training with the Army. Since graduation, she has been commissioned as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army.
The Association plans on saying farewell to Abby in August as she will become active duty with the Army and will be traveling to San Antonio, Texas for three months of training before being stationed at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland for two years. In total Abby will be on active duty for four years followed by four years of reserve duty.
Abby's ultimate goal for the future is to work in a busy emergency room while practicing as a family and acute care nurse practitioner.
Thank you Abby for all of your service to the community and to New Holland Ambulance Association, we wish you luck!
